We occasionally come across stories in the news relating to high profile artworks and artefacts that have been left to public bodies in high-profile wills, but the latest news relates to artwork owned by the late Lucian Freud that has been left to various UK galleries in lieu of inheritance tax (IHT), The Art Newspaper reports.

We came across this article in The Telegraph; it draws attention to the contentious issue of inheritance tax (IHT) and the upcoming general election. David Cameron and the Conservative Party have been discussing increasing the IHT tax-free threshold from £650,000 for a married couple to a staggering £1 million, and there have even been discussions regarding abandoning the tax completely.

We came across this story in the Birmingham Post a few days ago and, due to its landmark status as an inheritance case, thought we'd share with you some of the details. The case involved the partner of Ms Elizabeth Walker – a noted ecologist – fighting a legal challenge presented by her daughters regarding what he had inherited in her will.

Now this story certainly caught our eye – according to the Leicester Mercury, legal firm Legacy Probate Services have announced that they are to begin offering funerals and will writing services via a popular TV shopping channel based in Peterborough, called Ideal World. The Leicester-based firm will begin offering these services from April this year.
