Bath is one of the ten most expensive places in the UK to be cremated in, according to a report into soaring funeral costs.

The average cost of a cremation in the Bath area is £3,662 while a burial will set you back £4,880 on average.

A survey carried out by Engage Mutual Assurance has highlighted soaring funeral costs and is warning people to plan ahead.

The company has launched a new funeral cost calculator which allows anyone to simply click on and find the cost of a cremation or burial in their area up to 30 years in advance.

Sales director Maria Harris said: "It's human nature to avoid talking about death but our report shows people are in danger of leaving a legacy of debt for their loved ones if they make no financial provision for their funerals."
